How our Otoplasty procedures work.

Otoplasty denotes the surgical and non-surgical procedures for correcting the deformities and defects of the pinna, and for reconstructing a defective or deformed, or absent external ear, consequent to congenital conditions and trauma. About 15% of the population will have some genetic deformity of the ear, and for many people, these are very minor. However, sometimes protrusion, pronounced asymmetry, or strangely shaped ears can be the source of ridicule, self-consciousness, and low self-esteem. For this reason, a surgical option may be considered.

VASER stands for ‘Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance’. It is a liposuction technique that uses ultrasound waves to break up and liquefy fat cells, making them easier to extract.

FAQs

Surgery

When can I expect to see results?

Most patients will see results immediately post-surgery. To see the full benefits, patients can expect to wait around 4-6 weeks while they wait for swelling to reduce. Swelling is very normal, however, should you have any concerns Dr Hayek will advise on a case-by-case basis.

Can I sleep on my side after surgery?

We recommend sleeping on your back for the first few nights to avoid any irritation or discomfort. But patients may begin to sleep on their side after this should they feel comfortable in doing so. We also recommend you try not to touch or rub the area for up to 14 days post-surgery.

When can I shower after surgery?

Patients can shower on the second day after surgery. However, they are advised against rubbing the back of the ears or washing their hair aggressively as this may disrupt the stitches or cause harm to the area.
